Markup and margin differ

Markup is profit divided by cost. Gross margin is profit divided by selling price. At an illustrative $1 cost and $1.50 sale price, markup is 50% while gross margin is about 33.3%.

Account for other costs

Payment fees, support time, platform subscriptions and expected adjustments reduce the amount left after the service cost. Gross profit on an order is not the same as business net profit.

Choose a sustainable price

Use the margin calculator below to compare scenarios. Review minimum payment sizes and rounding so small orders do not become loss-making after fees.

Review service changes

Provider prices and availability can change. Recheck costs before publishing a price list, and define how existing orders will be handled when a service becomes unavailable.
